Mandhira yoga is the ancient art and science of yoga,
rediscovered and reintegrated. A bold statement? Yes.
Try it for yourself, and we think you'll agree.
Mandhira yoga is a reuniting of kriya yoga, kundalini
tantra, and taoist yoga (chi kung or qigong) - three
branches, we've discovered, from the same original
ancient spiritual wisdom.
Mandhira yoga is not a regular weekly yoga class (though
we do offer weekly sadhana sessions). Those
are great! Take some! Any reputable hatha yoga class
should be good for you!
Now, if you are enjoying yoga classes and want more --
something deeper, more energizing, more profound, more
advanced, more spiritual -- come to mandhira yoga.
Mandhira yoga grew out of over 35 years of personal yoga
study and exploration, with several great masters, plus
extensive reading in techniques and ancient texts.
One of the first realizations was that traditional
Indian yoga was missing some important elements, and
that one or two other crucial pieces had been kept
hidden from the 'average' yoga student.
A
second discovery was that most of those 'missing
elements' of Indian yoga were still known and used in
taoist yoga (chi kung), a sister tradition, which in
turn had lost or de-emphasized techniques still
practiced in kriya and tantra.
Third, all three traditions have lost a key feature
which has been restored in mandhira yoga - the
ancient step-by-step procedure of the 8-fold path of
ha-tha-sushumna-raja yoga, not over a lifetime, but
during each and every session of yoga practice
(sadhana). This procedure balances your nervous system
and endocrine glands, increases and directs your energy,
and activates both hemispheres of your brain
simultaneously, thus opening you to your higher mind,
your higher vibrations, your higher Self, and higher
realms of consciousness.
TEACHINGS
Mandhira yoga begins with Ha Tha sun moon yoga unlike
any other yoga class you've taken. The focus is not
only on posture and breath, but on energy ("prana" or
"chi"). Mandhira yoga pulls you up into Raja yoga and
meditation through a natural, easy, powerful spiral flow. It
is an efficient process which can lead to kundalini
energy awakening, and a balanced approach to spiritual
growth and beautiful inner spiritual experiences.
Mandhira yoga practice involves a revolutionary,
carefully-integrated spiral process of warm-up, ha-tha
postures and bandhas, kriyas, mandhira inversion™,
sushumna pranayama, sound and music, energy work, trataka
and internalization, mantra, visualization, desire work,
scripture reading, meditation, chi storage, and deep
relaxation. Sounds difficult or complicated? It's
not.
Mandhira yoga is taught in three course levels, called
"spirals", of ten once-a-week sessions each, or
sometimes in weekend intensives. The first spiral is
"ABHYASA", emphasizing learning and correct practice
with understanding. The
second spiral is "NIRMALA", emphasizing energy work and
purification on all levels. The third spiral is
"DHYANA", emphasizing active meditation,
astral awareness, and spiritual
growth. [A fourth spiral, "ACHARYA", will be for
teacher training.]
SECRETS OF MANDHIRA YOGA
In
the Guru Gita, Shiva teaches his wife Parvati the
deepest yoga teachings. He tells her to keep them
secret. But also in the Gita, he says these teachings
are for everyone. How can we explain this contradiction? The answer, as Goswami Kriyananda once
said, is that there are no real secrets in yoga, only
sacred teachings. These sacred teachings are waiting
for everyone, but they are to be shared only with
sincere students who have shown they respect the
teachings, and only when the students are ready.
In
mandhira yoga, sincere students will learn yoga secrets
- sacred teachings - never brought together into one
integrated set of teachings since ancient times.
In
the Introductory Workshop, you will learn the secret of
your left and right nostrils, the secret of the energy
generator at the base of your spine, the secret of
the electrical switch of your tongue, the secret of the
mandhira spiral flow, and more.
During the ABHYASA spiral course, you'll learn a secret
about light, of how the frequencies of the visible
spectrum relate to the chakras of your body and to your
prana, or chi. You will also learn the key secret of
directing energy through the inner solar system in your
body, a common core teaching in kriya yoga, kundalini
tantra, and taoist yoga.
During NIRMALA, you'll learn the esoteric secret of
retaining your sexual energy instead of draining it -
without practicing celibacy - and of raising and
converting that energy into spiritual power.
During DHYANA, you'll learn the secret of taking your
awareness inside your body and mind in a very real,
scientific way, with highly practical and effective
kriya, chi kung, and tantra active-meditation
techniques.
Finally, and perhaps most importantly, mandhira yoga
involves an awareness of five core issues of human life,
and five spiritual approaches to those issues. The
issues: desire, fear, victimhood, polarity, and sexuality.
Mandhira yoga teaches us to face these fundamental
karmic issues with growing understanding and practice of
integrity, faith, balance, wisdom, and energy yoga sadhana.
WHO IS MANDHIRA YOGA FOR?
Mandhira yoga is for anyone and everyone, of all ages,
provided you come to the practice with an open mind and
a sincere desire for inner growth, not just for physical
benefits. Previous yoga experience is recommended but
not required. Even for experienced yoga students and
teachers, some of the Sanskrit terms and many of the
techniques may be totally new.
If
you have physical limitations, you may not be able to do
some of the ha-tha postures and physical inversion
techniques of mandhira yoga, but even a person in a
wheelchair can gain great benefits from the other
practices and awarenesses. Much of advanced mandhira
yoga involves inner energy techniques beyond the
limitations of physical mobility.
WHY SHOULD I EXPERIENCE MANDHIRA YOGA?
Do
you want to be healthier? Be more flexible? Have more
energy? Do you want your endocrine glands to function
closer to their peak, and your immune system to be
maximized? Do you want your brain and mind to be more
alert, balanced, and engaged? Do you want to learn to
store energy inside rather than drain it and waste it
every day?
Do
you want to relax more? Feel calmer, happier, and more
centered? Want to learn to deal with victim/victimizer
issues, sexuality hang-ups, imbalances, anger and other
emotions? Do you want to learn about your solid,
liquid, and mental bodies? Do you
want to experience spiritual awakenings? Do you - with
dedicated practice - want to unlock your kundalini, your
biological evolutionary code?
The techniques and teachings are available. The sadhana
is up to you. As the Buddha said, "Go and work out your
salvation with diligence."
